I'm just starting to get more into RDF in particular. I'm seeing that the "Linked Data" web might be better described as the "RDF web" or the even the "data web". I would agree that it could be called the "Semantic web" as well, if you're using the word "web" in reference to the worldwide web. "Semantic" can be used to describe other technology systems/infrastructures and in regards to the worldwide web, the "RDF web" or Linked Data is the only true "Semantic web" that I currently know of. And TT's last point - vendors may be either technology or solution focused - but don't waste time selling technologies to those looking for solutions. First pat of the discussion re RDF left it all hanging a bit. RDF seems an excellent framework, but in trying to be all things to all people is undermining its ability to be absorbed/ adopted. However my take was that there is not a lot wring with it - need better education, better tools, better case studies.
